Use this basic checklist to ensure you haven't left anything out before departing your home country.
· Verify Your Scholarship Scheme & Duration:
o Bachelor’s Degree: A 4-year program with 5 full scholarship slots. 100% tuition waiver for the first year (renewable based on performance), a 3,000,000 VND/month stipend, and free dormitory housing.
o Second bachelor’s degree: A 2.5-year program with 5 partial scholarship slots. 50% tuition waiver and free dormitory housing.
· Check Passport Validity: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned arrival date.
· Apply for a Vietnamese Visa: Use your official HLU admission or scholarship letter to apply for a student visa at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in your country or apply online if eligible.
· Confirm Language Requirements: Ensure you have your certificate proving Vietnamese proficiency of B2 level (4/6) or higher ready for enrollment.
· Purchase Travel & Health Insurance: Secure international insurance covering the full duration of your stay.
· Notify the University: Email the ISO with your exact flight details and arrival time so the university can coordinate your welcome.
🎒 Packing Your Luggage
Required Documents (Translated into Vietnamese & Notarized)
·Passport (valid for at least 6 months) and printed Visa documents.
·Original and notarized translations of your academic degrees.
·Signed HLU Application Form and CV in Vietnamese.
· Passport-sized ID photographs (4x6 cm and 3x4 cm) for residency registration and student cards.
Recommended Items
· Cash: Bring a small amount of USD/EUR to exchange at the airport, or Vietnamese Dong (VND) for initial expenses (such as buying a local SIM card).
· Formal Attire: Business suits or formal wear for official university ceremonies, international seminars, or Moot Court competitions.
· Plug Adapters: Vietnam uses 220V electricity; standard outlets fit 2-pin round or flat plugs.
🚫 Customs Regulations for Entering Vietnam
Your belongings will be examined at airport customs. Please adhere strictly to local regulations:
· Prohibited Items:
o Illegal Drugs & Narcotics (Warning: Drug-related crimes carry severe sentences up to life imprisonment or the death penalty in Vietnam).
o Firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
o Politically sensitive or anti-state literature.
· Restricted Items (Must Declare):
o Foreign Currency: If you are carrying over $5,000 USD (or equivalent foreign currency) or over 15,000,000 VND in cash, you MUST declare it at customs.

1. Housing Expenses
·HLU Dormitory: FREE (Complimentary on-campus housing is fully covered under the HLU International Student Scholarship).
·Private Apartment (Off-campus): 4,500,000 – 8,000,000 VND / month (If you choose not to stay in the dorms and want to rent privately around the Dong Da or Chua Lang area).
2. General Living Expenses (Estimated: 4,000,000 - 6,000,000 VND / month)
·Food & Groceries: 3,000,000 - 4,500,000 VND / month.
·Mobile Data (4G/5G SIM): 100,000 - 200,000 VND / month.
·Transportation & Miscellaneous: 1,000,000 - 1,500,000 VND / month (Using public buses or ride-hailing apps like Grab, Xanh SM, Be).
🏢 On-Campus Accommodation (Dormitories)
As an HLU Scholarship recipient, a room is reserved for you at the university dorms.
·Location: Directly on or adjacent to the main campus at 87 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Giang Vo District, Hanoi.
·Check-in Procedure: Upon arriving at the university, please report directly to the ISO or Student Affairs Office. A coordinator will guide you to your room and hand over your keys.
🛬 Arrival Guide: Getting to the University
Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) is located approximately 28 km from Hanoi Law University. The journey takes about 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic.
· Option 1: Ride-Hailing Apps / Airport Taxis (Most Convenient) Use the airport's free Wi-Fi to book a ride via Grab, Xanh SM, or Be. Alternatively, take a reputable metered taxi (Mai Linh, Taxi Group, G7) at the arrival terminal.
o Destination: Hanoi Law University (Trường Đại học Luật Hà Nội – 87 Nguyễn Chí Thanh, Đống Đa, Hà Nội).
o Estimated Fare: 250,000 VND – 350,000 VND.
· Option 2: Airport Bus Take high-quality express buses (Route 86 or 68) to the city center (35,000 - 50,000 VND), and then take a short connection ride to the campus.
